The water has been very high at Myakka River State Park, so much so that most of the Park is flooded. Hiking trails are largely underwater and mosquitos are plentiful, large and hungry!
When the water is high the gators pretty much have the run of the Park. You hear them more than see them. Their distinctive grunts echo from every corner of the woodlands … or so it seems.
And they pop up in unusual places…like the middle of the road! This fellow was making his way from the lake side of Park Drive to the enticing flooded woodlands on the other side of the road. Drivers beware!
